Why Your 15 Reg Car Will Be Crushed Into A Cube

The UK is facing huge fines from the European Commission for failing to cut emissions of nitrogen dioxide.
The Supreme Court has ordered the Department for the Environment to come up with new plans to improve air quality and reduce emissions by the end of the year.
So what is the biggest emitter of NO2, and hence the most likely target for the DoE?
Remember a few years back? Buy a diesel, it's better for the environment, cheaper to run, and cheaper to tax than that nasty petrol! Get ready for a u-turn...
It is most likely the government will offer cashback incentives to owners to scrap / trade in their cars, however it's far more likely they will raise the road tax for diesels to an unaffordable level.
Some more radical ideas include massive congestion charges for diesel cars, trucks & vans, or even banning them from entering towns and city centres altogether!
Either way we are looking at the beginning of the end of the diesel motor.
This will of course result in more petrol engines out there, and the UK will face huge fines from the European Commission for failing to cut emissions of carbon dioxide.
Why oh why has no-one produced a viable hydrogen engine yet?
